LEGACY - "First Assault" - Demo Review

Yes goddamn it! What we have here is some serious evil metal by guys who have put out something totally original and fun, perhaps without even realizing it.

Legacy are from Italy and play a mixture of monstrous, punky deathrash (yes, deathrash!) with some classic, cult-status metal influences that will crush your skull before you even realize it.

The production isn't perfect and the overall outcome is by no means 'pro' but who cares about that shit. There are many 'pro' underground bands and most of them are boring. These guys may have not mastered the english accent, but they have mastered the 'fuck you' attitude.

Legacy come at you like a tasmanian devil, with four songs filled with razor-sharp guitars, quick tempos and aggressive crossover death metal vocals. The influences come from stuff like Death (especially), Destruction, Nuclear Assault, Annihilator and many others -- but only the good stuff. I want to give a thumbs up to the classic metal influences from bands like Manilla Road, King Diamond, Death SS, Paul Chain and other metal beasts of the past!

It is almost hard to believe that there are people out there who still play metal like this. It's like they just busted out the time capsule they entered back in '85 or something. This is awesome; it's evil, it's mean, it's raw, it's how metal should be! There is not one single new age element in this demo, and this is something which makes it VERY new age. You know?

WITNESS THE FALL - "001" EP Review (2011)

Well it's about time to make some metal signs up in here! Witness the Fall is an awesome modern metal band from Scotland -  a country which seems to produce many new bands full of totally talented, technical musicians.

These Scots play a style of metal that is fresh and modern, but still filled with the basics: lightning-speed riffs, driving melodies, technical parts and an overall sound that is totally heavy and chunky. I'd say it is a combination of NWOAM (that's New Wave of American Metalcore, fool!) with some distinct metalcore breakdowns and patterns in the vein of As I Lay Dying and Unearth. I just have to mention that the double bass drumming is totally fucking relentless, as it races alongside the head crunching, flaming metal riffs. All this is topped with some pretty incendiary political lyrics about the fall of man and modern society! Yeah baby! This is Real Metal 101 for the new millennium!

I fucking love underground metal; Like underground hardcore, punk etc, it's just music made by kids who love what they do and put in lots of commitment and dedication into what they do. It does takes a high level of dedication to be an underground band and sound like a well-paid recording artist, and this is exactly what Witness the Fall manage to do. I love playing this CD; it has awesome grooves, a killer production sound, it rocks the fuck out, and just makes me want to say 'fuck' a lot and find something to destroy! That's exactly what I need right now!

Hanneman goes down with spider bite!

Slayer, hardcore kids' (and possibly the world's) favorite metal band, will have to play a few shows without legendary guitarist Jeff Hanneman. The uber influential  foudning member of all time thrash kings is at home, recuperating from a hand infection that doctors say possibly came from a spider bite!

Slayer announced that they will continue touring with a - yet to be announced - session guitarist, as they do not want to let fans down by canceling any shows. Last year, Slayer's Tom Araya went into surgery for his severe back problems, resulting in several canceled shows. This is something that they won't let happen again; Slayer confirmed that Hanneman is on board with that decision and will be back for more insane shredding after he has fully recovered.
