EDGE THE MOVIE Screening @ Katarameno Syndromo

Do you really want to miss this? Probably not!

I'd say that EDGE is the most talked-about film of recent times as far as hardcore is concerned, I think probably since American Hardcore. In this case, the focus is not hardcore during the 80s in America, but the analysis of the straight edge hardcore philospohy and morals. IT goes through all basics styles and genres (in a historic kind of way) and interviews many prominent sXe figures of today and yesterday. My favorite part? Ray Cappo (Youth of Today, Shelter etc), of course!

I just think it's really great to have movie screenings like that, about hardcore music and culture here in Greece. It is just something we need, the sort of activity that is not necessarily 100% music-related and helps the scene grow by bringing people together and informing them about the stuff they  listen to, so it's all good. There is so much that can be done from us by us and it is great to see people actually taking the innitiative. So let's go!

This really made my Friday! And dude, you're not even straight edge :P

Live Show: Diskelma @ Katarameno Syndromo, 4 May 2010

Type: Live Show
Date&Place: Tue 4 May 2010, Katarameno Syndromo (8pm)
Bands: Diskelma (Finland), Endsight, Delete The Mass
Hey everybody! Finland's Diskelma are playing @ Katarameno Syndromo on Tuesday! They play a mix of punk 'n' metal, with many catchy guitar leads and harsh vocals. To my ears they play true party music, just perfect for some mid-week drinking (or maybe just chillin). But just remember, Disklema have nothing to do with D-beat or Scandi-punk, as many people think because of their name and their place they come from. This is like stuff on 625, Kangaroo etc.

The supporting bands are Endsight (chaotic metallic hardcore-punk) and Delete the Mass (good grind/metal/punk) and they're both from Athens, Greece.

p.s. Check out the awesome art for the poster!

2 shows tonight: Endsight NEW CD Release Party //// Berney's Propaganda

There were dark times when hardcore and punk shows were a rarity in Athens, Greece. Especially Sundays were the deadest of the dead when it came to live shows, which surely sucked. It seems that all that is in the past, as Sundays have turned to templates for hardcore underground mayhem. Take tonight for instance, you got TWO different shows you can go to, so it comes down to the point that you have to choose:

First up, we got ENDSIGHT's record release show & party (Roi Mat club, Solomou 11, Exarchia). The guys will play material from their upcoming album, entitled ...To A Falling World. The show is free. Also, the band will have loads of merch on sale, like the new CD as well as t-shirts etc. After the show there will be a party where I assume the new album will be played on top level! What to expect? A healthy dose of chaotic metal meets punk via Scandi-Tragedy-screamo soundscapes!
If you're not up for too much HC punk intensity for your Sunday evening, there is a punkier alternative for ya. Berney's Propaganda from Macedonia will deliver huge amounts of coolness at Katarameno Syndromo with their arty new-wave punk. Maybe not so extreme, but these guys know what they're doing with their savvy approach which incorporates Fugazi's noisy dischord guitars with a new wave, electro-pop sound. Do you like bicycles, flowers and an accessible punk sound from a DIY mindframe? This one's for you. Show starts at 8pm.

DESPITE EVERYTHING live @ Katarameno Syndromo 27/4/2010!

Yes yes yes! It's time for a REAL punk show!
Being a bit of a hardcore close-minded fool, I don't really and absolutely know how describe the sound of Greece's Despite Everything, apart from the fact that they play anthemic punk rock with a ruff edge. They're pretty melodic but at the same time they shout like madmen, so these guys rock pretty hard. Maybe like, um... Leatherface? Anyways, Despite Everything have been on the road for a whole month touring Eastern Europe. That's not bad at all for a Greek band!!! And tonight, they're coming back to their (and ours) hometown of Athens to play the last show of the tour. It's more like a big party as they're celebrating their double release, as well as the close of the tour. The supporting acts are Italy's melodic teenage punk rockers Spankies, and local young but mighty post-hardcore kids Ruined Families.

P.S. 30/3/20010: Apologies to Mike from KS, the live wasn't free as I thought (nor is any other live there) AND Katarameno Syndromo IS NOT a squat. Sorry Mike!
