TERROR "The New Blood" Video (Guest Vox by Toby Morse)

Terror is a band that needs no introduction in hardcore circles or fanzines like this. They are arguably the most popular hardcore band of recent times, and one of the very few bands that keep hardcore simple and represent its core (sic) values. In fact, this is exactly what the new song "The New Blood" talks about: hardcore in its purest form and the solid, life-saving impact it can have on one's life. The song is a mid-tempo schorcher which includes guest vocals by none other than H2O's Toby Morse. Enjoy the video, and visit Reaper Records for more info on Terror and many other back to basics hardcore acts!

Coming to think of it (and after watching "The New Blood" several times), it seems like this video is a good educational clip for people who want to know more about hardcore music and its roots. If you don't know the bands featured throughout this video, it's a good place to start doing some homework. If you do, well... feel proud and play those classics fucking loud!

The Switchblade Saints - "State of War" video

The Switchblade Saints is a German rapsy-voiced Street/Core combo who sings about topics that focus on war and the apocalypse. This has to sound good, right? Of course it does. OK, well this band takes a while to get used to cause they play a pretty basic form of that street rock n roll formula, but after a couple of repeated listens the cathciness and infectiousness of their sound starts to grow on you. Playing this on top volume takes your mind to some forgotten dive at the ugly side of the town, where you can just smell the beer-soaked wood and the blood from the fight that just broke out.

Let's face it: Isn't that what we are looking for when we're after some good rock n roll? The attittude, the dirty buzzsaw guitars, the desperate singing. The feeling like it's your last night on earth. Luckily, the Switchblade Saints have all of that. Street-flavored HC etc is not something I play every day at home, but this is a band that I can surely dig. I don't care if they are shooting for wider recognition or whatever; I enjoy the sound and this band brings to mind the much loved Street Rock that Burning Heart, I Scream, People Like You etc released in the late 90s, so yeah -- I dig!

Video: The Hundredth "Desolate"

The Hundredth is an up & coming progressive/post hardcore metal band, with the above description not exactly explaining how heavy and awesome these guys really are. They are on Mediaskare Records and currently tour with some Reaper Records bands, like Backtrack and Take Offense. This shows that even though The Hundredth may flirt with the mainstream HC/metal scene (professional videos, some clean choruses thrown in etc) they are still down with the ol' core. Enjoy this cool video!

WE'RE BACK WE'RE PISSED

Hello again, after a short holiday break. We got a new design on this blog to fresh things up a little, as we also embark on a new quest: to discover & present only the best from the world of hardcore/punk/metal and beyond!

We have a lot of cool stuff in store. For now, enjoy this video of crusty rock n roll madness with hilarious shots of punx from famous 80s films!

FEAR rules

It doesn't matter if you are a straight edge kid... no matter who you are, you can definitely still enjoy FEAR's sheer intensity and punk rock tunefulness!!! Here is a band that I think many newer 'true' kids have somehow skipped during their punk rock education. It's time to restore FEAR up there as one of the top-5 classic punk bands!

This song is angry, sarcastic and nihilistic. This song IS punk! Have a beer with fear?

Spirit of Hardcore - THINK I CARE

Think I Care was an awesome band that was around a lot when I was studying in the UK a few years back. I clearly remember how all the UK zines wrote about 'em, and for a food reason, too: THINK I CARE fucking destroy - what a legendary band of our times! Can you say INFEST worship? Well, this is what this is!!! It is your 01:52 fix of furious anger... Enjoy!

FATAL BLOW - "Running Over You" Video

Just a few days ago, we did a review of FATAL BLOW's scorching new album Rise from Disgrace. Since it is hard to put to words the intensity that these guys deliver, we are glad to post this brand new video for the song "Running Over You". This is 100% REAL hardcore action and it is guaranteed to crush everything that stands in its way. Enjoy the real-talk Brazilian HC mobsters at work!

Yeah... hope you enjoy that uber old school bass break at 0:29!

A Loss For Words & ...Mainstream (?) Status

In a way, I've always liked the punk bands who make it and gain recognition. Even though people always talk crap about the bands who get popular, they seem to overlook the fact that these bands have worked really hard for what they now have. They forget that in this life (and surely not in the music world), nothing's free.

Think about it. What is it you'd like to do most in your life? Well, the kids in these bands want to be out there and play music, so why should we be against them for that? A happy life means being successful at what you love doing. There is nothing wrong with it and I don't think there is anyone who would say 'no' to success if it came their way.

I wrote the above having A Loss For Words in mind in particular. Now they must be a band everyone knows in the pop punk/ melodic hc scene. These guys have worked so hard as a band (and still do) to be where they are. A lot of people don't know that they released 4,000 cds of their The Kids Can't Lose album on their own because they couldn't get signed, or that they shot a video (which now has some 147,00 hits on youtube) with their own money. Respect to the hard working bands out there!

Such Gold Such Gold Such Gold Such Gold

I mean, really... Can these guys get any more perfect? Such Gold seem to be spearheading the whole melodic hardcore / pop punk movement that is getting increasingly popular by the day. Stabbings, festival cancellations, member replacements or whatever else cannot stop this band from getting their awesome music out there and getting their well deserved respect in today's punk. Can you hear the power and desperation in these fast, melancholic punk tunes? This is melodic NY hardcore / pop punk at its very BEST!

The Acacia Strain - The Hills Have Eyes (Video)

OK! So we had quite a bit of punk rock, pop punk, whatever the last few days; now it's time to get real and tune in to some crazy-ass, perfectly exectuted downtuned deathcore. Or actually it should be death CORE cause TAS are one of the few deathcore bands who actually draw from hardcore as an influence. There are not many bands who can do this style better than The Acacia Strain. This video has made the rounds quite a bit but it is pretty funny and it is full of mosh so there you have it (let alone these guys are pretty much unknown here in Greece - no shit!). And if this is too metal for you, go find Cockpunch 'Attack' (awesome straight edge hardcore with TAS members). Enjoy you fuckers!

Fuck Authority: Boohahart - My Turn collaboration (surfboard art meets punk!)

OK so as most of you know, hardcore and punk have always been close with extreme sports. It is not only skateboarding that blends well with our favorite music, but also surfing. Yeah... surfing is surely on the rise in Greece and Europe in general, so me and my band My Turn thought we'd cash in on the opportunity... Just kidding.

This is a video my friend Jim from Boohahart did (a graphic design company that does ONLY cool shit), for his custom work on a surfboard. He wanted to rep My Turn on it, so there you have it. I think it fits pretty damn well to be honest! His video is called "Fuck Authority" and it obviously pays respect to the kings of skatepunk / melodic hardcore, Pennywise!

Thanks for watching and enjoy!

An avid skateboarder and surfer himself, Jim aka Hoppa is currently surfing in Morocco with the Cohete Surfboards team, but be sure to check his work out, say hi, and if you need any custom work tell him TYS sent you!

One X Choice "Forever War" Video (w/ Karl from Earth Crisis)

We never hid that we are big fans of all things youth crew, positive and anything Karl Buechner of Earth Crisis is involved in. Therefore, today we have posted a video that includes all of the aforementioned things!

Once X Choice is a hard hitting, Southern Californian straight edge band which carries the - almost forgotten - tradition of rad Californian heavy straight edge hardcore. That means that they might look like sun-tanned, chill out bros, but they are heavy on the thinking side and very serious about the edge! Various members of the band have been active in hardcore and skateboarding for years, so you can tell they are no rookies who discovered hardcore as the flavor of the month. Check out the following video featuring Karl from Earth Crisis, mosh around to it, get psyched, make yourself a vegan smoothie!

The band has a CD out called Forever War and it's just heavy youth crew meets mosh that you will definitely like if you're a straight edge kid or even just a hardcore music fan! It's also filled with guest appearances by Earth Crisis, H20 and Outspoken. Dig it!

Tardive Dyskinesia HD video on You Tube!

If you're like most people, then you probably spend hours on end checking out videos on You Tube. But if you're on the lookout for something cool and notoriously heavy, then there's something that will keep you interested for quite a while. It's Tradive Dyskinesia's new, HD video of their show supporting Dillinger Espace Plan in Athens (13 Nov 2010).

The Greek mathcore old timers have recently uploaded the whole show online, so now all of us can sit back and enjoy for free a hell of a performance on HD from the comfort of our home. It's about 40 minutes of blistering technical hardcore/metal shot from at least 6 camera angles. For your convenience, the show's been split into 4 equally mosh-isnpiring parts. So what else can we say? Head over to http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=279FFC4A43066C6F and start watching, or just click below for the 1st part!

RZL DZL - "Ignorance is Bliss" video

In times of stress and bewilderment (like the ones we're going through), one of the best things to do is to take it easy and chill to some party hardcore. This site's been a bit heavy on the straight edge content recently, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy decent hardcore music just because is made from big-time party animals.

One perfect example is RZL DZL, the infamous Detroit hardcore/rock outfit. These guys are guaranteed to get the party going and lift your spirits with their fun approach to hardcore. They're filling a serious gap in that lovable 'party hardcore' genre. If you think about it, hardcore always had its fun side (early Warzone, Gang Green, Murphy's Law, even early Dog Eat Dog - you name it). The way I see it, you don't even have to be into  partying to enjoy such music, just as you don't have to be straight edge to listen to all these awesome edge bands out there. At the end of the day, we all like pizza, chilling out and having fun, which is what RZL DZL is all about - so we can all relate on that level.

So here, dedicated to all the party animal TYS readers, Rizzle Dizzle straight from the Lockin' Out roster (also an edge affiliated record label if I'm not mistaken, at least in the past). They might have grown up a little since this video (shot a coupla years back), but that means nothing as long as they're laying down cool hardcore r'n'r! Cause at the end of the day... Ignorance is truly bliss!

Hardcore Christmas (It's Not Really Xmas)

A bit of a punk Xmas is all we need!
And so it's Christmas, Take Your Shot would like to wish you all the best!

I know very well that in hardcore/punk circles, Christmas is usually understood as a solely commercial thing, which isn't very far from the truth, really. However, I've found that a good way to stay happy is to sometimes follow through with what the rest of the world is doing, but do in your own special, unique way. In other words, for people like us Xmas might be awesome because we celebrate it by listening to our favorite hardcore records and/or chilling with our friends. For the rest of the world, it might be just about the usual consuming craze, which leaves them empty and depressed, and with PVDS (Post Vacation Depression Syndrome--ha ha!).

It's easy to make this the best Xmas ever! Enjoy this video from TYS pop punk favorites, MxPx!

Suicidal Tendencies "Come Alive" and some news

It's time to hit the road and leave Athens for two weekend shows with My Turn... I'm excited, even though work stays behind and I will have to pay on Sunday. I guess this is what hardcore is about, you put everything at stake just to travel with a bunch of loud dudes and play for 30 minutes. But there is something in this which keeps me alive, and to go up there and crank the amp up to 10 and go crazy is something that I really love and can't give up! Speaking of being 'alive', here is the new "Come Alive"  video by Suicidal Tendencies (from the new record) which has been rocking my world lately! These guys are the biggest inspiration in this kind of stuff. Enjoy people!

My favorite part is at 0:35, when Cyco Miko says "I will take you for a ride"... This is pure, simple craziness! And we come alive!

Cruel Hand-Studio Footage

Cruel Hand have been making quite a bit of noise with their latest album on Bridge 9, "Lock & Key". We're talking about some quality heavy, pissed off hardcore in the Terror tradition, but with less metal. Seems like Cruel Hand will be one of the bands that will take the hardcore scene by a storm in the remaining 2010, as they are on this year's Persistence tour (along Sick Of It All, DRI, Blood For Blood and many others) and they are creating a huge buzz around their name in hardcore circles, and for a good reason!
Cruel Hand: True hardcore sounds from Maine, US

This following video (off the band's myspace) was taken during their recording sessions for the above mentioned album. It documents the everyday hassle of committing yourself to recording your music. Such an activity might not be easy, but it is always a memorable part of making something happen. Having recently been in the studio myself, all this feels pretty familiar. Being in the studio is definitely a lovable part of playing in a hardcore band. Don't we all love it? Enjoy!

DANFORTH - "Predator" Video

France... home of baguettes, violent dancing and beatdown mosh-core! It seems like the dudes in Danforth are really ripping shit up with their newest release of frantic, downtempo beatdown hardcore. Mixing in a generous dose of hip hop, this Paris crew is ready to take up space with the biggest and meanest of motherfuckers in the beatdown genre anywhere. Japan, Germany, your moshing crown is threatened, so you better do something!

This is some serious 3D action going on and as the band itself admits, it took a year in the making. The song is from Danforth's No Fear To Bleed EP.

ILL BILL - 'My Uncle Shoots Heroin' Video

You may know Ill Bill as more of a 'gansgsta' type personality, because of his connections with infamous rap cliques and whatever. However, I think we could take this following song as a bit of a cold-reality, anti-drugs song, which definitely hits the nail on the head. Moreover, the video animation is truly great,  made by the aniBOOM guys who are the new innovators of hip hop (*and more) videos!!!

Does the story sound familiar to you? All I can surely agree on is that the reality of addiction ain't no fun and it's there in most families. Thanks for watching the vid and enjoy good hip hop music!

We're back!, Newzzz & Four Year Strong video

Hey so we're back after our short holiday break, and we are just absolutely pumped with hardcore as usual! There is a lot of good stuff going on and I can't wait for it to happen! I hope that after this summer, it will be the most intense hardcore autumn & winter we've ever seen and I've ever participated in here in Greece.

We got the Unrestrained show towards the end of August which should be a total blast and we'll obviously do a proper review on that, as the time approaches. Also, I have found myself playing again with a new band, which I couldn't be more happy about. This, along with the new TYS issue (still not ready, what the fuck!?) and the possibility of handling press for some pretty ass-kicking bands out there, is just about enough to keep our asses busy hardcore-wise here at TYS--for now, that is.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So what better way to start this mid-summer relaunch into hardcore action than with a great video filled with positive & energetic melodic hardcore music!? If Four Year Strong are a bit too light for your hardcore standards, well what the heck. They have really amazed me with their Gorilla Biscuits meets New Found Glory approach, which I find super-addictive and just perfect for my summer soundtrack. Plus they got some awesome lyrics to match their soundz! This is also a pretty well-shot and very funny video (excellent acting by the band members), so enjoy it if you haven't seen it already!
